it started with a cart

Howdy! My name is Mattie, and I’m the creator behind Stem Studio.

If you’d asked me a couple of years ago whether I’d ever consider starting my own business or diving into the floral world, I would have kindly chuckled and said probably not. But, here we are.

I graduated from Texas A&M in 2012 with a Horticulture degree, an emphasis in floral design and a professional event manager certificate. Mind you, none of that was really intentional: after spending the maximum hours possible as a general studies major, I needed to declare a major. Somehow though, I think the choice was fate, because the love and support that I found in the people, lessons and flowers in the A&M Horticulture department are what shaped my entire education experience.

After graduation, I spent 10+ years working professionally in hospitality, sales and several sectors of the events industry. I developed multiple skill sets and knowledge, and enjoyed creating with flowers on my own as a hobby.

When I left my job earlier this year, I was burned out and unsure how to move forward. While taking some time off to figure things out, I stumbled on the opportunity to buy a little metal cart in Round Top. The ideas started flowing for how I could incorporate this into my event industry knowledge, and Stem Studio came to life.

It feels very full-circle, to choose flowers to direct my path for a second time, and I’m excited to bring the joy in my own floral experiences to you.

Welcome to the journey.

hope in the journey

Flowers spread joy wherever they show up. It is my hope that through a Stem Studio experience, whether that is building your own bouquet, purchasing a design from the cart, or taking part in one of our workshops, you walk away with a little extra joy and hope in hand.
